Lavasoft is almost ready to release the new version of AdAware: AdAware 6 (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/)

Spybot is still better and faster.

From my experience, morriswindgate is right.
AdAware does do a pretty good job, but I ran both AdAware and Spybot for a test for a month.
When the free AdAware needs updating, you download the new program. Spybot updates regularly to your existing program.

Spybot has caught 3 more adbots and tracking cookies right after running AdAware.

Haha...yeah, I'm using Spybot too and probably won't go back to AdAware. Just wanted to let everyone know that the new AdAware was right around the corner (took Lavasoft long enough).

Cricket,

Actually AdAware does a good job considering its size and cost.

I'm sure there are members that appreciate the "heads up" about their new upgrade.

I have to agree... I switched to Spybot. It catches a lot that AdAware misses making it far more effective.

Thanks for the headsup, Cricket. I dunno now. I might try this "Spybot" and see how it is; I'd never heard of it until now. Is it a freebie like AdAware or a "buy it" type?

juppy,

It is free. It has alot more options too.

Well, I took AdAware off my machine and installed Spybot. Geez, Louise! I couldn't believe all the stuff that came up. With AdAware I used to get, at most, around 40 things found. With Spybot, the first time, it brought up 117! That's almost triple what AdAware found. Alot more options and the descriptions of each individual item found are much better too. Works great. Thanks guys! :)

Ya... I had a nightmare machine that was giving all kinds of errors until a fellow member found spybot and told me to run that (sorry...don't remember who to give credit to)... it found a whack load of stuff that Ad Aware missed and the problems all went away.

Don't worry about the registry key/registry value entries...those aren't really hurting the system any.
