I`ve installed Win98 with various file missing messages occuring. I`ve just clicked skip file each time. Now when i boot up, after the Win98 screen i get a message saying something like vredir.vxd file missing click any key and then dfs.vxd file missing press any key and the win98 boots as normal.

I`ve tried extracting them from the CD(E:\win98) to the vmm32 folder which seemed to work but when i restarted the same thing happened.

After the afore mentioned messages i also get an error about the msnp3.dll file saying system cant find file.

I`d really appreciate some help. Thanks

Mackem :D

That's a no-no. You should never skip the installation of driver.

Try going into the device driver and looking for devices that have an exclaimation mark on them. Remove them and refresh. Install the drivers windows calls for. It may call for several reboots depending on how many device drivers are installed. Good luck, mackem! :)

Go into "My Computer" > "Control Panel" > double click on "system" > click on the "Device Manager" tab.

This is missing networking files. Go into control panel - networks and remove everything.

I just caught a miskate in my first post. I ment "Device Manager", not "device driver". Sorry for the confusion, Mackem.

Glc, how do you recognize the names of these drivers? It's neat that you do. ;)

I've seen this issue several times before.

I feel so inadequate responding, being a serious novice and all. However when I did my first build two weeks ago, I had the very same problem. After several times trying to re-install drivers I would always get the message that the drivers could not be found on either the Win 98 CD or the motherboard CD, I simply re-installed Win 98 and now everything is fine, no more of those messages at start-up and everything works.

Please check with an expert on this board first. All I am saying is that it worked for me.

Do you mean remove EVERYTHING in network?

I have had this happen one time. Turned out to be either a bad installation or a bad install CD. Your best bet is to install your OS with minimum hardware setup.

I thought .VXD Files were associated with the video card drivers?

How about the msnp3.dll? Possibly Network drivers like GLC says?
