I'm now going to be doing my first build, the processor will be an AMD 2100+ thoroughbred, I was wondering how high I can overclock it safely, and what I'll need to do it.
The motherboard will be an ABit nf7.

Hi,
Check out the cpu database at www.overclockers.com to see what other people have gotten for overclocks with that cpu. This might help give you a rough idea of how far your chip might go (of course other factors come into play as well).HTH

Don't know how high you can get it, will depend on the chip. The board supports vcore adjustment so if you unlock the chip you will be able to do more than just adjust fsb settings. Memory will be important. Get the best and fastest mhz you can afford. You will need a specialized (oclocker) heatsink/fan as oclocking makes a lot more heat and you need to remove it. Heat is one of the biggest problems with a good oclock and the cooler you can keep your chip the more stable the system will be.

I was just coming back to talk about that issue. What do you guys have for suggestions for hsf? Right now I'm looking at 4 in peticular, been browsing new egg for a while.
igloo 2410pro
$15
COOLERMASTER DP5-7JD1B-0L
$21
HCC-002 PURE COPPER
$22
HHC-001 PURE COPPER
$30
off topic question here, sorry, but are hsf's a good idea for processors that havnt been oclocked? Or is it completly unnecessary?

Modern cpu's need a heatsink/fan to work properly. The hs/fan takes away the heat the processor creates. without one a p4 will overheat and shutdown. an athlon will overheat and fry 5 secs max. Most motherboards will not work without one(fan) plugged in to the board

$30 Personally, I'd go with the VANTEC AeroFlow VA4-C7040 because of the new fan design and the heatsink clip attaches to all 6 socket lugs, not just two. I prefer the added safety of spreading the load between all the lugs (less chance for the heatsink to fall off if a lug breaks).
Of the HSF's you listed, the HHC-001 PURE COPPER.
