question on transfering HD with win98se to another pc

my friend got a used pc from his work that is faster than the one he has now. he doesnt want to reinstall everything again so i was wondering how to go about transfering the HD from the old pc to the new pc without screwing things up? the pc that the HD is in now is a compaq deskpro en 6400 with the 440bx chipset. the new pc is a compaq workstation ap550 with the 840 chipset. thanks.
