Please help me out !

A lot's of people of this forums use the Chieftec case w/front
USB2/Firewire panel.

Does somebody know how can I get this Firewire port work with my Asus P4PE mobo ? Chieftec has 6 wires, Asus board has 10,
actually only 9 used.
2 grounds and 1 12V wire is missing. I've thought about simply splitting the Chieftec's power and ground wire but I'm afraid that is not that simple even I couldn't get the splitter for the pins probably that thing not eves exist...

Why do I get the message if I connect a USB2 device to the front
USB2 ????? port : High speed divece connected to the low speed USB hub ? I've tried with the Asus stuff the board's USB header
and that is worked well. Regarding the NEWEGG this case has
the front 2xUSB2 and the firewire and I can't use them..

Somebody should know - a lot of you talking about the Chieftec case with this front panel or just nobody use that ?
That is why it more expensive w/$15..... what a waste ?!
**Now with 2 x Front USB2.0 and 1 x Firewire IEEE1394 ports**

Please help me out !

Thanx

I have an Antec case but they are very simular with the front USB and Firewire. On my antec there are two seperate leads comming from the front. One has all the USB wires, I'd say 9 of them and the Other has the wires for the Firewire. When you say there are only 6 connectors for the USB are you sure its the USB and not the Firewire? My antec has fewer Firewire leads than it does the USB. Consult your Case manual and It should tell you which one is for the USB and which one is for the Firewire.

When connecting them to the mobo, it helps to have both the case manual and the mobo manual open to diagram of the USB pins to help you connet them.

Good Luck!

When you look at your USB wires, they should have the black caps that go on the pins. There should be writing on one side of the black part. Do any of them say "Power", "Vcc", or "+5v" ?? If yes then that would be you power lead and would pug into either of the USB+5V pins. There should be two, one for each usb port.

Have you looked in your case manual yet?

As I said before - there is no case manual if I
had that probably I already
got the solution - even the Chieftec site doesn't
have any info about
that - the support did not answered to me for 4 weeks.

Here are then the marks for the Firewire :

TPA+ - there is no question
TPA-
TPB+
TPB-
VG - should be the ground
VP - I guess this is the power

that's it - The Asus board needs 3 more - 2 more

grounds and 1 more power

USB2 :

1-D I connected this to the LP4-
1+D I connected this to the LP4+
2-D I connected this to the LP5-
2+D I connected this to the LP5+
1 Ground to the NC or to the GND
1 Ground to the NC or to the GND
2 Ground to the GND
1 +5V these are obvious

Well I apoligize, no where did I see you state that you didn't have a manual for the case.

these are obvious
Well it looks like you have the USB figured out, Unless I'm mistaken.

I aplogize, for I thought You needed help with the USB as well.

For what its worth. My antec case has the same wire configuration your case has. I only have Six Firewire wires, and the same amount of pins you have, just arranged differently. I don't see why these two companies would make these cases that can't hook up to the mobos. I'm starting to think the extra power and grounds are useless. Why would 1 firewire port nees soo much power and so many grounds? An electrical outlet only has One ground and basicly one power. Just my insight.

Unfortunatelly the USB2 is not working,,,
I connected the pins like I wrote in the previous letters but I only able
to use them like USB1.....
The message is : High speed USB device connected to the Low speed hub. (I have a USB2 external HD)
If I use the rear panel USB connection with the same USB header on the board - the rear panel unit came with the board - I don't have any problem.

So,,, I've got USB1 and a useless Firewire connection on the front panel...

I'm just so surprised, bunch of people has the same case and nobody asks about this or has problem with this, not even reacts to my thread.

Thank you for your help !

Ok, both of your usb ports don't work or just one? If both don't work, did you make sure all usb ports are enabled in the bios? Double check all the pins, make sure they're all pushed down good. Try making sure the writing on the black is facing out from the center of the two pins. ::::: two rows face top row ^^ then face the bottom row vv . Thats how mine are. If just one is working I'd still try what I stated above. Also if you can see, make sure the wires are actually connected to the front port(s).

As for the fire wire, I myself would just hook up the wires to the pins, leaving out the 1 pwr and 2 gnds. I'm pretty sure it won't hurt, but not 100%.

Instead of emailing their customer support, call them or write a real hand written letter. Tell them how unhappy you are with their product and you demand some attention, or you will consider a different brand next time. Its worth a shot. You can also try contacting Asus. If this is a common problem they will prob know about it.

And hey buddy, Its no problem, I'm happy to help..err...trying anyway...lol

Good Luck

When you say you get USB1 but not USB2. Do you mean USB 1.1 and the High speed USB 2.0? If so, make sure both usb 1.1 and usb 2.0 are enabled in bios. You might just have usb 1.1 selected. Also check to make sure you don't need to change a jumper on the mobo to enable USB 2.0.

The only OS that has native support for USB 2.0 is XP with SP1. You need to install drivers with any other version of Windows.

what does SP1 mean, if I get OEM version of XP pro will it have native support for usb 2.0?

yes, I've checked the BIOS - first thing was when I started the computer after the win xp pro installation.
/The first thing what I usually do before I assembly anything is
reading the guides, If I don't have try to get them - and
reading the forums/news - after I dare to touch the real things/

Like I wrote /this time for sure, I've checked that/,
the same USB header working with the original Asus rear panel stuff - not what actually integrated on the board, what actually came like extra stuff 2usb2 port + game port on the same slot and I've attached to the same header what did not worked with the chieftec front panel like USB2 - high speed if you prefer that way. (usb1 as I called is the usb1.1)

This thing means it should've been enabled in the BIOS - what is actually default for the ASUS P4PE.

When I installed the board's drivers there was a driver for the USB2 - so I did it , and there was the note too - only the winxp with sp1 knows automatically the usb2 support.

I'm sorry If I was mean again... I did not mean too :-)

So, I have the Bios enabled for USB2, I got the drivers too but
it did not help me out yet.
