Either I have done something or something has happened to cause the small text such as in help windows or in the directions that appear next to this window to be almost unreadable. I have tried to find the reason but no luck. Anyone know what I have done to cause this and what I can do to fix the problem?

Don't know what might have caused it but to try a fix, Open an internetexplorer window, click on view, then go down to text size and adjust from there.

Might want to run a thorough system antivirus check, too: some viruses monkey around in the Registry & it pops up in the strangest ways.
If there's no virus, try cat's idea.
If you need to adjust more than the internet view settings, go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Display . . . click on Appearance, and browse the "Scheme" list to find one you like - then apply it and modify to your tastes and save it with an easy to remember name "John's Screens" or whatnot. That should do it.
Post again if you have more questions. . . . and welcome to the Pc Mechanic forums

Welcome to PCMech, John1395!
Have you tried just a simple reboot?
