What programming is used to make the talking buddy and messagemates?
They are similiar in there presentation and I was wondering what was involved in such a project.

If you are talking about those irritating Windows programs that try to be your friend, then they are probably written in C++. Most Windows software is written in C and C++, with some stuff written in Visual Basic as well.

If you are thinking what I am thinking, then it is called Microsoft Agent. There is a nice shareware program (or at least a few years ago) that I dabbled in called MASH (Microsoft Agent Scripting Host). It is fun to play with.

For AIM/ICQ/IM agents, such as SmarterChild, they use a privately written program. There is an SDK for it: BuddyScript, I think.

What would be really cool is mushing the two together and adding some bayesian modeling to get a *useful* assistant.
