I just installed a Maxtor 30 gig HD into a Pentium III machine and seemed to have lost the LPT1 port. It was there a minute ago before the second HD was installed. The police have been notified of the missing LPT port but in the meantime the Maxtor folks have no clue why the port went away. At this moment the machine will not print. Plug and Pray doesn't see the port nor the printer attached. I suspect a Bios conflict because Windows98 tells me that that port is not installed. It was there before I installed the new hard drive. Any ideas? BAD Controller? Incorrect CMOS settings? Bad Port?

Check your BIOS to make sure it is still enabled. There is no reason why installing a HD should eliminate your printer port, but I've seen stranger things happen. If it is enabled in the BIOS, does it show in device manager? If it shows, but does not work, try removing it and re-detecting it.
