"MMORPGs are kinda dead"

LOL you're joking right?

Everquest (http://everquest.station.sony.com/) is bigger than ever, and believe it or not (or like it or not), it is still growing. With a PS2 version recently released, another new expansion going live next week, and EverQuest 2 on the horizon, EQ is still upping the standards.

Also, in case you missed it, the highly, highly, anticipated Star Wars Galaxies (http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/) is due for release very soon. If EverQuest didn't put MMORPGs on the map of American Entertainment, then SWG probably will. Did I mention how highly this game has been anticipated?

Asheron's Call 2 (http://www.ac2hq.com/) won runner-up to GameSpots Best-Graphics-of-the-Year award. That is quite impressive for an MMORPG in my opinion. And yes the graphics are jaw dropping.

Dark Age of Camelot recently put out a new expansion, which won expansion of the year awards (and not just in the MMORPG categories).

And if the MMORPGs don't intrigue, recently released games are: NeverWinter Nights - over 5 years production went into this game and it was worth the wait. The game is a classic. There are several other excellent RPGs out, including Dungeon Siege, WarCraft3, IceWind Dale 2, and Morrowind.

Finally, the MMORPG that I anticipate the most: Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft (http://www.blizzard.com/wow/) OMG that game might be the knockout to EverQuest that other MMORPGs have attempted but just haven't come near to delivering.

MMORPGs aint dead ... they're here to stay.

i may not be big into mmorpg's or have i ever played one, but i know from all the hype that the are definately not dead and are actually growing as a gaming genre. i think xayd is just into FPS's IMHO.

I take an RPG over a mindless killing FPS anytime.

Don't get me wrong, I do love FPS and enjoy pumping enemies full of lead, but and RPG is the most immersive gaming experience. You must use your head and many skills aside from the railgun.

If you are looking for a real gaming experience, get the Baldur's Gate series: Baldur's Gate, the expansion Tales of the Sword Coast, Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn and its expansion Throne of Baal. That should keep you busy for the next three months.

I haven't played a MMORPG but I intend to as soon as I have the broadband running.

If you like RPGs in first person perspective get DeusEx (a helluva game) and Morrowind if your system has the muscle for it.

Dark Age of Camelot has approximtely half the number of people playing now that were playing last year. With each patch more people quit, since the majority opinon is that each patch makes the game worse.

Everquest is over 3 years old.

Asheron's Call 2 does have nice graphics....and nice graphics....and oh, ummm....nice graphics? The game doesn't have nearly the following of AC1, the time spent on eye candy was lost on gameplay IMO.

Star Wars Galaxies, honestly, is a test of how much money Verant can squeeze from SW fanboys. The screenshots I've seen of it make it look like Everquest with wookies. Which is probably about what the final product will be. It's anticipated by people who would pay to play it if it were stick men holding light sabers (fanboys), it's not anticipated based on anything Sony or Verant has said about the game itself.

Alot of the hype you see DragonOA1, is just that, marketing hype ;). MMORPGs are a fundamentally flawed model for a multiplayer game IMO. Marketing hype is the only thing keeping the profitable ones alive.

i would love to get into mmorpg's but the whole idea of paying for game, and then for the service gets at me, that is how it works right. I just dont have that much money

What is a 'MMORPG'? Also, if you haven't already, try 'Deus Ex'; it is both an FPS and an RPG!

MMORPG is Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game from what I've heard.
