Hi. Can anyone help? I want to cut part of a film and the record sound over the top, so I can then play back as a short MPG film. The source is a DVD disc and I have a DVD drive, a DVD player, and a G-Force 4 Ti-4400 graphics card. Is the best way to do this to capture the film through the graphics card or to rip the DVD?

Can anyone then recommend an editing program where I can cut the scene I need and then record some sound over the clip?

Any help will be much appreciated....

Is there a copyright issue to be concerned with here? or is it your own movie?.

No copyright infringement - strickly for home use only so copyright not an issue.

Hi mrwibble,

Ripping should give you the best quality. Also, if you can port it to a DV camera, then you can save editing time and keep some quality. But, if you're making like a VCD then the quickest and easiest would probably just to capture it with the vid card.

What Software would you recommend to rip and edit (i don't have a DV camera) ?

DVDDecryptor to rip it.

DVD2AVI to extract video and audio from the VOB files.

VirtualDub to cut clips from the extracted video and audio streams.
