Shuttle A161 Mbbo & ATI Radeon 8500?

Dear Forum-

I just recently swapped motherboards taking out my Jetway 771AS and putting in a Shuttle A161....long story, I won't bother you with it.

I really like my old 771AS better; however, for reasons I don't want to go into, I'm sticking with the Shuttle A161, haha.

Here is my situation. I have been unable to get my ATI Radeon 8500 to work with this Shuttle board. From what I've gathered the 8500 has trouble working with AMD's 750 and 751 chipsets...which the Shuttle board uses.

Therefore, I everytime I try to install the ATI specific drivers, the computer hangs and resets a the XP screen. That being said...I've given up on using the 8500 with this motherboard and have decided to purchase another video card.

I'm looking into the Radeon 9500 ($200 at Best Buy) and my question is:

Does anyone know of any incompatibilities with this Shuttle A161 motherboard and ATI's newest cards? (9700, 9500, 9000, etc.)

Also, if anyone out there has experience with the Shuttle A161 board and knows that a certain high end card will work with it, please let me know.

I realize that this board is only an AGP 1x/2x capable board; however, I would like to go ahead and get a newer card.

One of the AMD guys will be able to answer this better than me.

Since you already have a better video card than you do a mobo I would save a few bucks and buy a more modern mobo. You'll end up with a more a stable, better running computer.

A computer can never be better than the mobo is based on.
