It's the game that proved that I have no talent for RTS.
Oh well.
It was a beauty though.

The best part to Homeworld was its UI (user interface). Many have tried the 3 degrees of freedom thing in games, but the complexity of the controls (*cough* descent *cough*) usually lead to you having to learn advanced three-dimensional navigational calculus just to figure out where to go. Homeworld made a nice, rather complete, easy to learn and use interface which did not hinder game play too much.
I did not get to play much of it, so my view of it is still rather idealized, but my hat goes off to the developer who made the navigation interface.

I apologize for the thread hijack, but I would like to point out to demosthenes that it doesn't take any knowledge of higher math functions to play any of the descent games. I've been playing descent since its inception in '96 and never once needed to calculate any vector equations to get where I had to go. Although I admit that the learning curve for descent is pretty steep compared to the typical "groundpounder" game. The six degrees of freedom does present challenges to people who can't or don't want to think in 3 dimensions.
I now return you to the regularly scheduled thread.

The slam on descent was directed in the former part of the sentence not the latter, namely the complex controls. The average gamer is hardly smart enough or patient enough to do the latter. Besides, the calculus part was an hyperbole.
My point is to do any articulate move, you had to press about 6 keys which usually made my computer beep. I gave up quickly on Descent and never touched anything other version of it.
People do not seem to understand my sarcasm. Maybe I should put smilies at the end of all my sentences. ;) There we go, much better. ;)
Respectfully,
Demosthenes
