Why is this here,where did it come from??

Hello All,
I just opened "My Network Places",and there was a folder in there that was Not mine.
It was named with an ip address and said ftp in front of the numbers.
The folder contained a bunch of different things about car audio equipment.
I have no idea who's this was or how it got there,but I paniced and deleted it,and emptied the recycle bin.
Was I hacked in some way??
I am on cable internet and use a netgear router.
Any info on how this may have happened will be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

are you sure that there is nobody that has acess to your computer, eather from your keyboard or on your network.

Hi Edave,

I'd suggest first doing a full system virus scan, the installing a software firewall like Zone Alarm or Kerio. It could just be an FTP folder from a site you accidentally clicked on, or it could be some sort of hack attempt on your system.

bailey,im positive its not from my network.Its just my computer,and the kids computer on this network.
I wish i didnt delete the darn thing,maybe I could have traced it or something.

DrZaius,Im going to go do a scan now.
Im hoping it came from a site like you said.I didnt think I would need to run a software firewall,since I have this router,but I guess maybe its a good idea.

Just did a full virus scan,and everything looks good.
I hope this was nothing too serious.This kind of stuff makes me nervous:)

Hey Edave, your fairly safe behind the router as far as incoming,the software firewall lets you know about any strange outgoing traffic IE trojans etc.

dont worry about it.. its just a ftp that you got from a website that was probley a popup or something stupid. i hae a few of them.. no worries. that router should be enough for you.

I am always on electronics sites,so it probably came from one of those somewhere.
Just kind of freaked me out when I saw a folder that i knew was not mine:)
