repartition hard drive help!

This is what I have:
2 HD's
HD#1: 20 G is C: drive for OS and programs

HD#2: 80 G is listed as follows:

E: drive is 29.29 G logical drive with all of my music files

Unallocated space: 14.65 G

Unallocated space: 30.59 G

My question is, how can I combine the two unallocated spaces into one partition without messing up my E: partition. I have powerquest 2002 but I don't want to buy partition magic. Is there a way to do this with the system I have?

What OS are you using? If you are using Windows 2K or XP, I think you should be able to delete those two empty partitions and make a new partition using the Disk Manager without screwing anything up.

Otherwise, Partition Magic is the only thing that can merge partitions without screwing anything up. I have searched for some freeware programs to do that, but haven't found anything.

I can't figure it out. I'm in disk management but I can only create a new partition of the unallocated space. It won't let me combine the two unallocated spaces so basically I am back to square one. My specs are listed. (xp)

I guess it depends on how many music files you have. If you can copy the contents of drive E: to drive C: temporarily, then you can use XP to repartition the other drive. Partition Magic what I use and it's works well. There are other programs out there but I haven't used any of them. There is one that gets mentioned here occasionally that is free but I can't remember the name. It may be Delpart or something.

How does the space look? Is it like this:

[----E:------][--Free space---][---Free space---]

If so, then you should be able to right click on the partition, select "Delete Partition," and then create one large partition after you have deleted them both. On the other hand, if E: is between the two like this:

[--Free space---][----E:------][---Free space---]

then you have to use PM.

You can use the XP tools, but just move all the music to C first.
Remove all the partitions on E, then recreate whatever you want.
Move the music back to E.
If you can't/won't move all the music to C, then you WILL need something like Partition Magic.

When I did that then it said unallocated space. It will not let me create one large partition.

I cannot move music files. They are large. About 20 GB. I can reinstall them but that is a pain in the maximus region.

Would it be possible for you to post a screenshot of the disk manager? Seeing exactly what the drive looks like now would help.

Because your E: partition is in the middle, you are going to have to use Partition Magic to repartition that drive without losing data.
