Thnx, first time I've ever done the whole "cable sleeving" thing....made for some interesting swear words...hehe, before I got the correct tool for removing the molex connectors, after that it was a breeze. Did almost break my heart to cut the perfectly good wiring connectors off all 6 of those new UV fans to attach them to the fanbus..guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do ehh?
Looks good Redfallon.
I just finished updating the pics of my box, i will have more up soon....Just Click anywhere in my sig to see em.

Brown Hornet,
did you paint the inside of the case yourself?
Redfallon
04-13-2004, 11:51 AM
along those lines, I have been thinking of hitting the inside of some of my case with some UV reactive spray paint...anyone know if this will have any kind of an affect on heat dissipation? I assume that the heat radiated by the case would be minimal, and I have more than enough fans to cover the air flow....just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the idea, or if anyone has done it before and has any more pics...

My watercooling setup is still in the works.
What parts are you choosing to use? Are you just cooling cpu? or nb/vga/hdd as well?
nocturnx
06-05-2004, 04:26 PM
Alright heres the parts list so far:
Waterblock: Swiftech MCW-5000-P: Im using this waterblock because it had very good cooling performance ratio with flow performance in JoeC's waterblock review at overclockers. Also because I got a very good deal on it, price was the reason for not getting a RBX, TDX, or WW.
Pump: Hydor L30 II : I got this pump because I got a really good deal on it (package deal with the cpu block) also I was going to go with the swiftech mcp-600 pump but it was the same price as the cpu block and this pump combined, and im poor. Would have rather had a DC pump tho so that I could connect it to my psu but no biggie.
VGA Waterblock: Danger Den Maze 4 VGA block: Couldnt really find a good deal on any VGA blocks for my 9800 Pro and Im using a 1/2" ID (tubing) setup so I just spent the bucks and went for the best, also this was the only good VGA block that came with 1/2" barbs, the swiftech mcw-50 is 3/8" and using a 3/8" to 1/2" connector would restrict flow.
Radiator: Pro-120 Hi-Performance radiator from Dtek : Got this because it was recommended and popular at the overclockers forum. Also it is small enough to fit in my case. I plan on getting a 120mm Panaflow or Delta fan to mount on it with a shroud.
Also got a jug of distilled water and some blue engine coolant for a mixture to use. Got 12 feet of clearflex 60 tubing, again would have went with Tygon tubing but the price difference was just too great.
Reservoir or T-line? Havent decided, depends how much room I have after putting in the pump and radiator. I did cut out one side of my hdd rail so I got the radiator fitting nicely in. I had to move my 2 hdd's up to the only 2 empty drive bays I have left and stand them vertically, looks good tho and opened up alot of valuable space since my case is so small. Ill put up some underconstruction pics soon.

yamahaSHO,
good job with managing those wires!
I see that you have a quite-computer fetish ;). I don't know if you noticed, but a lot of the high frequency sounds (the annoying ones) come from the hard drive. I did a little mod where i put the hard drive in a box with bubble wrap lining the inside, but with a fan on the belly to allow air-flow. It made my sound levels drop drastically!

The tall case is a Antec P-160. It is a really cool looking case....well with all the panels on it it's cool looking....lol.
The short one is a......a.......a.........well crap I don't remember what it is. I bought it b/c I liked the light bars on the front. It is a pretty good case but I will probably wind up buying a cube (hopefully a plexi cube) and transfer the guts. Thx i3oss, I am liking both alot. No both are just connected to a router and KVM. I was gonna use the old machine for a server so I stored it for about 4 weeks. When I pulled it off the shelf it wouldn't even POST. Haven't really started to troubleshoot yet. I also have a laptop in the bedroom on wi fi, so I would like to get a server going.....
Gonna go outside to see what my computers look like through the window in the dark. I'll take a pic and post it if they glow nicely.

Water cooling is just getting under way. But so far I have cut out the hard drive rail and mounted my Hdd's up top. I got a swiftech 5000-P waterblock off ebay very cheap. It is in good condition on the inside but the copper bottom was heavily tarnished. After a good lapping with 600grit then 1500grit sandpaper and wipe of Brasso it now has a mirror finish :)
I have before and after pictures but they are a bit fuzzy.

cubed, how did u make it.. i can understand the outside i guess.. but the drive slots and stuff? and how what it all held together?.. i'd use krazy glue :) that stuff is strong
Most likely just bought the glass (drilled a few holes) and put it together like any other cube case....screws.
If you used crazy glue, you wouldent be able to take it apart without destroying it.
Also im working on some extensive mods to the xaser, i painted the inside black, cut out every fan grille. Added a 120mm side intake, plan to add another. Going to buy a new psu, new pump, new block and i have a DD Xtreme rad sitting here which will be put on top of the case.
Going with a green uv wire, blue uv fan scheme. But now ive started to get intersted in guitars and that so far has taken every drop of money out of the xaser fund...so it looks like it will take awhile to finish :(

06-19-2004, 12:46 AM
well, why would u need to glass anyway? unless u going to make it a lil bigger or use it as a window.. but plexi is cheap

I used syringes to inject an acetone based solvent into the glue joints. This essentially fuses the pieces into one piece with an almost completely clear joint. The case then folds open on a clear acrylic piano hinge to provide easy access with only 3 thumb screws instead of 10 phillips screws like most acrylic cases.

The best way is with a router and a special bit made for plastics or lexan. You could probably pick one up at your local hardware store for pretty cheap. Dremel will work as well but they can melt the plastic if you cut to fast.

Finally got my water cooling installed. Very time consuming to install but it was worth it. Had a minor leak where the tubing wasnt sitting flush with the video card waterblock so I had to cut a longer piece of tubing to fix that. Also not shown, I just added a second 120mm delta fan to the backside of the radiator for a push/pull configuration.

I have to agree, that wire mesh makes the case look kind of gaudy. If you are using it as a fan filter, try putting it on the inside of the case, so its not visible.

There is also some EL wire on the front of the case, and 4 blue led fans inside. I pop-riveted the handles into place and used lucite for the window(it doesn;t shatter as easily as plexi does).

Antec P160. I bought it originally with the solid side panel and later bought the window panel. The case is available either way. It's a cinch to work on. Removable mobo tray, both sides come off, 4 removable hdd trays with silencing grommets and a hidden area for a 120mm front fan. ;)

No clean up, that's the way I built it. Gotta give credit to Cricket for posting a link where a guy spent a huge amount of time and effort hiding all the wiring in his case. Much of it was concealed behind the motherboard. I used some of his ideas and later added the round, blue IDE cables, cable covering and the Antec light bar that is hidden behind the cross brace. The biggest challenge was determining where to put the wiring harnesses and temp sensors from the Enermax controller. I have four fans under control as well as 3 of the four thermal sensors from the Enermax and one from the P160's digital display panel all in place and functional. Two are under the heatsink to monitor the cpu temps and one is under the Northbridge cooler. Been talking to Tin Canary about adding some more side panel fans, but I'm real hesitant to start cutting holes.

Panama: Did you have to extend any of the wires for the power connectors to get them to route nicely in the bottom of the case?

Panama: Did you have to extend any of the wires for the power connectors to get them to route nicely in the bottom of the case?
(by the way, cool idea of using the flat cable clamp for the wires at the top)
All the wires were long enuf but it got a little tight behind the hard drive rack. The removeable back panel made access easier. The clamp at the top came with the case and was intended to help route and contain the usb, firewire, power, audio and temp probes for the rotating operator bar on the front. The covers that hide the opticals were originally in the top two postions. I moved them to 2 & 3 in order to give some more wire room up top and to allow the Enermax controller to mount in the top bay.

lol, looks like you took the front ports from another case and connected them to your computer like I did :D
yeah, i did. the one that came with the case had the holes drilled for headphones and microphone, but the actual ports aren't there. so, i stole the ports from an old one and plugged them in.

Hey, ive just been looking through this forum lately and want to do a few things like this to my build...first of all my case is blue w/ a window:
my case (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-156-020&depa=0)
the only things i can think of so far are those round ide cables everyone seems to have here, and one or two cold cathodes...dont need to do anything in terms of fans but any ideas what would look good in terms of the cables and cathodes? Im trying to keep the whole thing under $20.

Is there an easy way to mod your flat IDE ribbon cables to round IDE cables?
Dangermouse1
08-23-2004, 05:32 AM
You can turn flat cables into round cables like this (http://www.moddingzone.com/articles/ribbon-cables)
You can also use coloured electical tape to cover the ribbon or spiral sleeving.
Zacaboo288
08-23-2004, 05:54 AM
Well after asking a dumb question, I just stared at my cables for a while until I decided to take it upon my own initiative. Thanks anyways for your help. I basically did the same thing. I cut between every two wires and wound it up with black electrical tape. It's messy but meh, it gets the job done... and for free.

I took off the cover and put a piece of blue transparency material over the Apple Logo on the inside, then when the screen is on the logo glows blue. Be very careful though, as the airport antennae are on the inside of the lid too and very easy to break if you pry in the wrong place.

I found this thread and thought I'd post pics of mine too. There are some nice cases posted here :)
Here are the only two pics I have that can fit under the 100kb upload limit.
The rest (along with a sequential build and mod history) can be found here....
