I just formetted my computer. and then i realized i had no sound. so i went to my Control Panel and to my Sound and Audio Devices and it says unknown device? My WinXP cd is scratched so i think it cant install the driver from it, so i searched on the net for the driver. but when i try to install it

Intel(r) 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller

i always get this error.

you have to download the driver, save it to a folder on the hard drive , then install it from there

ok, Ive done that before, just go into the device manager and remove everything for the sound card, then reboot and put the hp cd in the drive when it ask for the drivers, seltct the lacation, browse, then go to the audeo drivers folder on the cd, click ok and it should load all the drivers it needs

What model of HP is this computer?

If it's an old model then it could be a compatibility issue.
