I have a P111 800, plenty of memory, and want to upgrade my vid card from a VooDoo5AGP, to one of the G forces.
I did this once before but forgot all the research I did.
Ti4200? Around how much$ for an abit? or was it a 400? see, I dont remember! I was trying to stay in the 150 -200 range.
Does anyone have a better idea short of building a new PC, maybe a different card?
Thanks, I appreciate the help

for prices might want to check www.pricewatch.com
good place I know to buy from is www.newegg.com
A Ti4200/4400/4600 is a good choice for a gaming machine - a better card for a general purpose machine would be a Radeon 8500/9100 or a 9500 if that will fit in under your budget.

tHANKS,
I just was not to sure about the radon card. But if you believe in it glc, I will take your word for it.
I hate to say good bye to my VooDoo, but there are just to many games around that it will not work with any more. No matter how much tweaking I do. They (3dfx) went out of business almost right after I bought the card. Just my luck!
Thanks again
Brian

The Radeon 9100 is the old 8500 with a new name. A marketing trick to get rid of outdated hardware.
Its not a marketing trick - it's to position it above the 9000, which it outperforms, to eliminate confusion.

:o
I stand corrected then.
ATI has decided not to play the MX game any more - and for that I salute them.

OK, what is the MX game? I would rather "not" buy a gforce card, and what ever you are refering to sounds like a plus for radeon, and a minus for Nvda. I am just curious.
Well, Nvidia has a GF4 MX and a GF4 Ti. The MX is actually just an "improved" GF2, and is outperformed by a regular GF3.

Yep, just like the Radeon 9000 vs the 8500. I really wanted the 8500 though, and i got stuck with a 9000 cuz they don't manufacture them[edit](8500) anymore...

Illphil, the Radeon 9700Pro is intended for heavy gaming.
You know, if a card makes games fly, it will make almost everything else fly, as games are the most demanding apps a home/office PC can run.
largo: Thats exactly why ATI renumbered the 8500 to 9100, they are still making them.

Well, it looks like a ATI OEM RADEON 9500 128MB DDR DVI 8X AGP, for 156$, which falls into my area. Thanks for the help.
A couple more Q's though, I see a few that mention SAPPHIRE ATLANTIS
either togeather or seperate. I also saw a referenece to them in one of the posts. Does it make a big diff?
And, is any one looking for a deal on a VooDoo5.5? I only paid 300 for it and will let it go for, lets say a good dinner? That hurts!
thanks again
Sapphire is one of the OEM's making ATI cards, and they are equal quality to cards made by ATI themselves. Another good ATI OEM is Powercolor.
I think the GF4 Ti series is an excellent gaming card, but I would get the 9500 over it personally. ATI has a winner in the 9500. It's Universal AGP so as long as your motherboard supports AGP 2X or better, it will work - the card can run at 3.3, 1.5, or 0.8 volts.

OK, I am leaning towards the ATI 9500 128MB, but here is the killer-- I looked up the specs and it wants a 350 power supply, Of course it does, I have a 300 W power supply. Do you think I can squeak by with a 300?
I also like the fact that the ATI has Dir X 9 compatability. Where the GFTi 4200 didnt say it did.
I also could not find if I would need a 350 W power supply for the GF. Do you happen to know if the Ti4200 128MB needs a 350 power supply?
Thanks for filling me in on Powercolor, I saw a lot of their name and some others, and one starts to wonder if all these are on the up-an-up.
300 should be fine as long as it's a decent brand. The Ti's need 300 according to specs but I put a Ti4400 into a Dell with a 200 and it worked fine.

If you need more power, there's always the extra 4 pin connector thingy in most PSU's
