Is this normal for a mobo?

Ok the motherboard I had in my first build died so I had to RMA and im waiting for Newegg to ship my replacement. Anyways when I first built the computer it ran great but I was having problems getting it to post consistently. After messing with it for a few hours I got it to post consistently but it was taking about 10 seconds or so before the monitor would come on and it would beep. Is this normal or does it sound like the motherboard was defective all along?

I doubt there was a problem with the motherboard.
Beep codes (http://pcmech.com/show/troubleshoot/14/) can occur for a variety of reasons.

the beep I was referring too was for the post. It beeped when it would finally post

The fact that the sys made a beep at the end of the POST, ensures that the board and everything on it has passed a basic test and can be recognised by the BIOS.

This does not mean that all is perfect but IMHO, 90% maybe.

NOTE It was just sinble beep, yes?

right just one beep. But is is normal for a system to take this long to post. I mean when I turn it on I have to stare at a blank screen and watch the light on my monitor blink for like 12 seconds before anything happens

And apart from taking 12 seconds to pass POST, the system is running OK I guess.

12 seconds..... a life time, I don't thing that there is too much to worry about, although you could try reverting to STOCK speed and see what happens.

i have noticed that if you increase or decrease the rated Stock speeds then you can suffer a slightly longer POST.

You could also skip the memory test at boot, if you have it enabled. I prefer to have this as it gives the HDD a chance to get up to speed.
