To reset the desktop background color, set the value in registry:
In XP it is HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors

But in windows98, I can't find the item "Color" under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\,
How about the Windows2000, Win NT, Windows ME and Win98?
Thanks!

You are going in a hard direction there my freind, In all Win O/s 's just right click on the desk top Select.... Properties > Appearance and click on the section is the desktop area in the display. Look further down the window and you will see the current colour of the desk top, click on the arrow and a plette of colours will appear, just click on the colour of your choice...

REMEMBER to click on apply, your background colour will now be that of your choice.

OR have I misunderstood you ?
