Need new monitor & don't know jack about them

Hey, I was hoping someone could help me out. I want/need a new monitor, I want a Nice 19" Flat CRT under $300. I do a lot of gamming and Surfing the net. I was looking at viewsonic, and other name brands but I don't know jack about monitors and the dot-pitch and all that mobojumbo. So if anyone could throw some suggestions at me I'd appreciate it.

I like Samsung monitors, personally. They have a nice 19 incher called the 955df that has gotten good reviews. Mwave has it for only $208.61. I tried to look for it on Newegg but I've been having trouble with their site lately. They may be cheaper though, dunno. Here's the link for the specs at Mwave. But Samsung customer support is abysmal.

I'd go with a Viewsonic.

Look for a flat panel CRT with at least .25 dot pitch.

Another good monitor to consider is the Hitachi CM721F. Great 19" monitor plus a 5 year warranty.

Just curious Nuc, and I don't want to offend, but why would do you feel you need customer support for a monitor?

A KDS 19 inch Flat CRT can be bought locally in most place for around $190.00. Great vibrant and bright colors. Walmart and Office Depot carry them.

I had a nasty experience with this Samsung monitor a year ago. They took 30 DAYS! to repair it and they NEVER wanted to give me a new one. Well, they returned the monitor to me as I had given it to them: in the same condition.

It happened with a client's monitor too.

Sure, Samsungs are very good monitors, but may God help you if you have a problem with them, because the guys at the customer support surely won't.

On the dot pitch, is the lower or higher number better? I would imagine higher, but I just like to clear that up. ;)

Regarding dot pitch, the lower the better.

.21 is way better than .25.

Good monitor. When you get it be sure and go to the KDS site and DL the driver pack. KDS uses a little different system for the drivers.

1. Close all open applications.
2. From Windows the Windows desktop, click;
START
Settings
Controll Panel
3. Double click Display Properties
4. Click the Settings tab
5. Click Advanced Properties
6. Click on the Monitor Tab
NOTE:If you don't have a MONITOR tab, refer to ii.a.
section below.
7. Click on Change
8. Click on the Show all Hardware button
9. Click Have Disk
10. Click Browse
11. Double Click on C:
12. Click c:\KDS
13. Click OK
14. Highlight KDS under Manufacturers from the List
15. Click on the Monitor that you have
16. Click Apply
You will get a message "Windows will now Adjust the
Refresh Rate. If the screen becomes garbled wait 10
seconds and your original setting will return.
17. Do You want to Keep these settings Say "YES"
18. Click OK
19. Close
20. Done
