View Full Version : Video Card?

I think my video card, Nvidia GForce, is bad/went bad. Ther are horizontal lines/shadows on the screen. I have looked up troubleshooting tips, but only found info for vertical lines. I even hooked up a second monitor and the lines are still there making viewing almost impossible. Changing the resolution or refresh rate doesn't fix the problem. In fact, on our flat screen, increasing the resolution makes the background skew dramatically. Anyone out there know if this is one effect of a "video card gone bad"? Any suggestions? (The system has been reformatted so I don't think it is a driver problem.)
Try uninstalling the drivers and installing new Nvidia drivers - if it still is screwed up, the card is probably bad. If the card has a fan on it, is it working? It's possible your motherboard has a bad AGP slot, you can troubleshoot that with a different card.
I have also seen where flaky system ram can affect the AGP - had that here myself.

Same problem with Riva TNT on friends old Gateway(not htat old P3, any ideas on whther its 4x AGP? dont want to break anything testing the card / AGP slot, BIOS doesnt say, so I'd assume its AGP 1x, how would I find out if BIOS doesnt say?) anyway put a pci card in and it works fine so its not the monitro, butt he problem was pretty wierd, like stuff would continue horizontaly on any backround that want black.
