This is off topic, but is something that I have wondered about and never asked.

I live within 15 miles of the Southwest Louisiana border. (If you never have been to that part of Louisiana, you are missing some good food.) Do the Canadian French have food as good as the Acadian French?

Should be interesting to see how Ontario and quebec vote...Canadian Alliance pretty much has the West in its grasp.

The Maritimes will vote Liberal...or any other party OTHER than CanAli...cause they don't want to lose there UI...EI
This because CanAli keeps threatening to bring jobs there that last longer that 20 weeks.

quebec will vote for PQ and Liberal...for obvious reasons.

and Ontario will probably vote Liberal also since CanAli hasn't proven themselves there yet. (but CanAli will probably get a couple in which will help for the next election).

Scary part of CanAli is Stockwell and congrigations church beliefs...close mindedness...


It would be a terrible loss to all if we reversed the way we are starting to view people. And lost freedoms to government legislation...nothing can replace a lost freedom...or the choice to or not to excercise a freedom.

Don't even count our vote in the west, it's never counted for anything. The election is decided in the east before our polls even close.

Another BTW, next time you eat alligator soup, add a little Sherry to the mix, maybe two tablespoons per bowl. The heat of the Sherry brings out the flavor very well.

Well, when it comes to the Canadian elections I am reminded of the Pie'ing of the current Prime Minister. Only in Canada can you get that close to an ellected official that one can "PIE" them. Guess the new P.M will need a pie resistant suite ..huh.

A note to the Pie Guy ......maybe next time make it Rhubarb....I hear the P.M wont use da pepper spray dere on ya ...he likes da rhubarb pie.....eh.

Just a note...its not just our PM that gets crap lobed at him.

CanAli leader Stockwell Day had Choclate Milk thrown on him a couple weeks back...sure has changed their thoughts on stuff (can you say tighter measures)...don't think this guy won't use all means necessary to acheive a goal either.

...all this throwing brings up a good point...funny us as Canadians voice our tormentment with throwing food and "marking" our leaders. Whereas US citizens think they are aloud to shoot people...hmmmm?

Maybe the rumour that Canadians are too laid back is true...either that or we dont have any respect for the 4 basic food groups....wasting it on politicians like that. Either way, I am sure that the next thing that will likely happen in the "Fooding of our Canadian Leaders" will be to slap Joe Clark with a healthy helping of mashed potatoes...... or a drive by fruiting. In the news today ... more than 410,000 people had visited the This Hour Has 22 Minutes Website where there's a petition you can sign to force Day to change his name from Stockwell to Doris. It's a little joke they launched during their last show when they were poking fun at Day's plan to hold national referendums on important issues if 3% of voters, or about 350,000 people, signed a petition demanding one. It took only a couple of days to pass the 350,000 mark.

The Canuks should get a referendum mandating no new tax increases. Ever. I bet it wouldn't be supported by any of the policians. They would stop shouting "Democracy" real fast.

I'd be willing to place any money that it would pass with overwelming citizen support.

Perhaps you Canadians can answer something that I have wondered about for a long time. How much influence do the French have in Canadian life, and the forthcoming elections. Over here in Europe, the French are notorious for their xenophobia, insist everyone in Europe should speak French, and dislike America, and everything American. With Canada so close to the USA, I wondering if the average Canadian relates more to the USA, French or British way of life. I hasten to add that I do appreciate that Canada is a powerful country in its own right, with its own sense of identity.

In these elections, that is not much of a factor. Goodcanuck pretty well explained it as it is. I'll elaborate ...
The majority of francophones live in Quebec, the 2nd largest province, where the Bloc Quebecois is leading with a VAST majority ... they do not have candidates in any of the other provinces [BQ is Canada's third largest party]. There is a lot of support for Canadian Alliance in the west [CA is the 2nd largest party], the leading opposition. * The largest province, Ontario, is likely to support the Liberals [to the chagrin of some], for the 3rd consecutive time if all goes according to the polls.
BTW, the liberals have had a majority government since the last two elections.
As you may be aware, USA does not have an official language. Canada has two: English and French. All of the leaders of the parties understand both languages; has was evident during the televised debates that were recently held.
As for day to day happenings, whether one is a anglophone, francophone, italian, polish, portuguese, chinese, japanese, german, belgium, vietnamese, etc, everyone as an impact on the Canadian way of life. IMHO, a typical Canadian relates more to the American way of life than to the European one [partly due to the location and television], while at the same time retaining his/her own unique identity as a proud Canadian ... as most would be of their own country.
