Office XP Academic [Archive]

Can someone tell me if there is a difference in the MS Office XP Academic version compared to the regular or oem version.

E-bay seems to have a lot of these version on auction and they claim that there is not a difference with the software, but only the sticker on the package. Thanks DD

There is no difference.

The Academic versions are meant to be sold to students and schools. It is illegal to sell them to anyone else.

You actually need a school ID to qualify for M$ academic software.

It gets checked when you purchase the SW with a M$ reseller authorized to sell academic SW. Not everyone is.

It's kind of a double edged sword. It's the same as Offce XP Standard except for one thing....you won't be able to upgrade it. So you can save some money now but later if you decide to upgrade to Office 11 or whatever you'll be starting over.

best buy sells office xp for students & teachers. the eula permits parents of students, students, teachers and pretty much anyone in night classes or further education to buy it. go ahead and get a copy if you qualify.

Heres the FAQ. There is no requirement for ID, it's done on the honor system. If you are an educator of have someone in school or college you can use a copy in your home for the duration of their tenure.

My M$ rep told me they don't care who buys it. It seems they are trying to compete for the customers that would normally be using Works or one of the Corel Office Suites.

like i said, it's done on the honor sysrem.
My re-seller will sell me as many copies
as i want for whomever I want. Personally, if it's for
nonprofit home use & you are related
to a school kid, then buy one. Whose
gonna check hen the kid graduates
anyway.

Thanks for answering my question OEM and Tuf, as I have a copy of the Academic version and I was never asked for my student ID upon purchase and was just curious as to how it was supposed to be checked.
