Case Sound

I recently worked on a dell pc and the sound was incredible. I heard the humm of the moniter over the computer. I was wondering how I could get mine to sound like that. I know I have to many fans running, CPU fan, POWER supply fan, rear fan, above the cpu fan. Which ones should I disable or move. Do I need to get a new power supply? Thanks

Don't disable fans...they are there for a reason. You could try getting these dampering pads you place inside your case. They work like egg cartons in a sound room but in my opinion they hold in heat and that's bad for PC's. Try not to be so concerned about the sound of the PC.

But what you can do is look into replacing all your fans with fans designed to be quieter. As far as the power supply, never seen it but I wouldn't doubt it's out there.

Dells only have one large low RPM case fan (on the back) blowing IN and no CPU fan - the CPU is cooled by a huge passive heatsink and a plastic duct from the rear fan. The power supply fan sucks the hot air out. That's why they are so quiet.

on my dell this is how it looks..

case NO intake fan, No exaust fan, NO power supply fan, the cpu is cooled by a massive heatsink that has a plastic duct over a 120mm fan spinning at about 500Rpm therefor the little noise..

but this is not good. my dell has overheated crashed and locked up on my. i left the dell on for aobut 2 days and did some deicent gaming on the P4 1.6ghz. and then it crashed and would not turn back on.. so i opened up the case and let it cool for a couple hour s and then it turned back on..

I found out that it is the cpu fan that is makin the extra noise. Does anyone know where I can get a really quiet cpu HS+Fan ? Thanks

its probably lod because your using an AMD and AMD requires more cooling than an Intel.

Also if you really want it to be as quiet as possible, switch the bladed case fans out to 12volt blowers like the one at the link below. They are not as efficent as fans so you will need a couple of them, but you cannot hear them run.

i built an older dell optiplex gxm-5200 computer out of spare parts for someone a while back. it was so quiet, the only thing i could hear was the hard drive.

I just recently purchased the speeze fans that you guys recommended and I wanted to know what other fans I should keep running. I have an 80mm fan on the side of the case directly above the cpu fan, and I also have an 80mm exhaust fan blowing the ait out the back. I also have the standard power supply fan running also. I was wondering if I still should keep all those fans running or not, because they make a good bit of noise. Thanks.. :D

my box is loud, but i'm used to it. people will come over and ask me where the noise is coming from lol.

but yeah i wouldn't disable any fans because air circulation = temp drop = computer life longevity. :)

Disconnect one fan at a time and monitor the temps - first one I'd pull is the side fan.
