Hi fc3646,

Good PSU's include:

Antec, Astec, Enlight, Enermax, Sparkle Power, PowerMan, Hi-Power, Fortran Source (Sparkle), AOpen or PC Power & Cooling, Verax, Fortron FSP, Herolchi HEC, Chieftec.

Ones to avoid include:

Deer, Austin, Foxconn, CompUSA, Allied, L&C, or any other generic ones.

Enermax is considered one of the best.

Thanks guys,

I just wanted to make sure. I turned on my computer this morning and left to get dressed, shower, etc. When I came back out, it had shut itself off. The power lights were on, but everthing else was off. I could smell hot wiring. I looked it over inside, couldn't see anything and re-started it. All fans were working and seemed to be ok. I shut it off and went to work. I though maybe a power supply problem ( the one I have in now is generic ), so I posted the question and went ahead and ordered it.
I am using the computer now, and it seems to be fine...no hot smell and hasn't shut off. Mother Board Monitor is running, showing a CPU temp of 102 degrees F and system temp of 80 degrees.......

I heard Antec makes the Compusa ones.

Maybe the CompUSA power supplies come from the same manufacturer as the Antec PSU's.

Let me add Raidmax to the do not buy list. I had huge problems with their psu.

Ok, I got my new ENERMAX EG365P-VE(FM). 350W Power supply and installed it. It has 2 fans. The manual shows one should face towards the mobo, but on my case the holes line up so that the fan is pointing towards the top of the case!
Is it ok to be like that? Should I be looking for a new case? Don't know what kind I have now.....
I can post a picture of it if that will help...
Thanks
Scott

Also some cases the top actually has a duct in it (SKYHAWK for one) that runs from the power supply area to the front so that it evacuates heat from the CD area.
As long as there is some space above, 1/4 to 1/2 inch, the lower fan it is ok to install it that way

I don't think there is a 1/4" there...maybe 1/8" at best....
I think I might look for a new case, they aren't that expensive..

I also bought an 80mm fan.....I can't find anywhere to mount it in my case..

More than one company makes the CompUSA PSUs. The painted ones I saw were Powmax, while the chrome plated ones were by a different company. I wouldn't buy Powmax if I wanted anything quiet or powerful.

are Skyhawk PSUs ones to avoid? It's one that came with my case.
