I downloaded a trial of this program through ZDNet and while it reasonably does what I want, I wanted to ask the board what your collective opinion might be, before I spend the $20 to get the full version.

Is there something out there that is similar, better, cheaper??

I want to track b-days, anniversaries, other odd recurring or one-time events. Plus holidays and the phases of the moon. I also want font size and color capabilities. And to be able to print each month. Hhhmmmmm don't want much , huh ? ?

If there isn't anything cheaper, then I guess I've talked myself into this purchase, as it does do the things that I have listed.

Yes, I did try the Calendar program that came with MS Works that came with this PC, but there were no font size/color choices that I could see and clarity of instruction just wasn't there either.

Dont get me wrong when I say this. I am all for using technology as much as possible in your every day life, its what seperates us from the animals. But, why not just buy a normal calender for like 1 dollar?

And in my question I find my answer...you have to buy a new calender every year, so 20 years = 20 bucks, so why not spend 20 bucks 1 time and have it forever... plus use technology...2 birds, 1 stone. LoL, go for it...:D

Thanks, avx487 . . . . you're absolutely right, but haven't been able to find a calendar for a $1, but just may not have looked in the right places or looked that hard. And I could even make a simple version of my own, but then I'd have to constantly update it. The first calendar program that I tried spoiled me. I loaded in the info and then didn't have to remember it anymore.

Technology is a good thing, unless it's not working for you at the moment, but it can tend to make you forget how to do some of the simple things or that there is a simpler way of doing something.

Reminds me of what I heard on TV, paraphrasing here , , , , ""We spent thousands and thousands of dollars to invent a pen that would write in zero gravity and what do the Russians use? A No. 2 pencil.""

This may not do everything that you want (especially the moon phases etc); but for appointments, anniversaries etc. Try using Palm Desktop, for free, (http://www.palm.com/software/desktop/); its basically the desktop PIM version for owners of Palm handhelds; but I find that its pretty useful as a standalone. You can simply disable the hotsynch ability, as you arent going to use at all.

I just dont get the use of cutting down a tree for a calendar, when I can get a free piece of code reminding me that unless I get something for a certain somebody's b'day or other such concocted "special occasion" *sigh ;)* I am going to get in serious trouble.

$20 sounds very reasonable for a program that does all that. Broderbund's Calendar Creator 9 is $25.

Um, Statica, are there issues re **special occasions**?? :) Sorry, I just got a chuckle from that. I've also downloaded that software and I'll try it to see how it does. Free is always good.

glc, most of the programs that ZDNet had in their list were in the $20 range. But for some reason, I've just not spent the $$ on this program yet. The first calendar program that I downloaded - I wish I could remember the name of it - was free and was very serviceable for what I wanted to do. But now it's gone - long story - and I'm trying to find a replacement.

I've Calendar Creator for couple of years and am always on lookout for something else as I don't care for it.
