back up copies

I made a back up copy of a game I have, I am under the impression that we are allowed to make one copy for safety purposes. Well it is a crappy copy, it will not read the copy made with Nero. I did notice when making the copy there was a message about "copyrighted material".
What can I do to make a workable backup copy?

Well, we can say this - try CloneCD. Nero gives you that message with every commercial CD you try to copy whether it's copy protected or not.

The door isn't open that far - but the newer the version the better the odds are that it will work. Nuff said.
