I am not hooked up to DSL and have two computers linked up through a Linksys Router Model # BEFSX41, Rtherfast DSL Firewall Router and its up and running. Both computers are running Windows XP and can get on line together or at different times. What my question is: Does this router automaticly start the firewall protection or do I have to install it through the internet at the Linksys site? The paperwork that came with it doesn't help very much. Thanks, JonnyDale

Go to the setup page for the linksys. I think it's 192.168.2.1
You'll see all the options there. It's clearly spelled out in the manual.

Linksys setup page is 192.168.1.1 unless you have changed the defaults.

The basic NAT firewall is always on - you may have to look on the setup tabs for "SPI" firewall and turn it on. The "installable" firewall is Zone Alarm Pro, which you have to pay for and really isn't necessary. I haven't worked with that exact model, but the BEFW11S4 wireless router has the SPI option in it and it has to be separately enabled.

When you are in the router admin, click on the Help button, that has a lot more info than the paperwork the router comes with.
