Hi guys. I have been looking at the temps of my CPU since I just got a new HS/F. The temps at the motherboard bios are much higher than the readings that SIS Sandra software gave me. Which are more accurate? By the way, Sandra says 80.7 F under medium load, and mother board says 104 F under boot. Thanks

Then why are they so drastically different in temp? This is kind of making me feel funny. What would be optimum temperature for an athlon XP 1700+? Thanks

The BIOS would be programmed to work with the health monitor better (since they're both part of the same motherboard) and is giving a more accurate reading.Originally posted by blackhawk
What would be optimum temperature for an athlon XP 1700+? It's hard to say what the "optimum" temperature would be for your specific XP 1700+ because of all the different variables involved (ambient room temperature, the specific parts used in your system, how many case fans are installed, what case is being used, etc...). Basically, if your system is running stable, don't worry about the temps. 104F is 40C, which is still way below the 90C heat threshold of the AMD Athlon CPU's.

But if your system is freezing, locking up, rebooting or just acting really strange, overheating may be one cause that you need to look at.

My Athlon XP 1700 T-Bred idle's at 91 F,surfs the net at 93 F,and hit's 100 F when gaming.All temp's have been consistent for the last month.I have a volcano 7 HSF,and one 8mm exhausting.Monitor your temp's and as long as they are consistent you shouldn't have to worry.

My idle temp is 105.6 F. that sure worries me a little. What should I do. I have a speeze hs/f and an 80 mm exhaust fan and the power supply fan as well. I just don't understand. My room temperature is 70.0 F and the heatsink and the powersupply don't feel very hot at all. I bought a thermaltake dual fan power supply and it should come in on monday. Other than that, any suggestions? thanks guys....

Like I said earlier, if you aren't experiencing any freezes, lockups, rebooting or strange behavior, don't worry about it. Why worry about a problem that isn't there?

Now, if your idle temp for the CPU was 70C (158F), then you would have something to worry about.

Like I said, monitor your temp,as long as it is not erratic or the machine become's unstable, there is nothing to worry about.

I think i'll just uninstall that temperature monitor and relax and enjoy my system. Thanks for your time and help you guys. I really do appriciate you guys putting up with people like me. LaTeR.... :D
