I am currently in the market for a laser printer, and these two Samsung (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&manufactory=1077&catalog=38&DEPA=1&sortby=14&order=1) printers, the ml-1430 and the ml-1450 have caught my eye. The only difference is the 1430 is 600x600, whereas the 1450 is 1200. Well, the 1450 has more ram, and paper space too.

My question is, how big of a difference will the 1200 dpi resolution make? This printer will be used to print out class notes, summaries, reports, essays, and the occasional b&w picture. What do you all think?

Go for the 1450. Not only for the resolution, but for the memory, paper trays and upgrade options.

And that extra res can help in graphics.

Sounds good to me, so long as I can convince my parents to pick up the tab :D

One question though, the ram is expandable to 68mb, and although the 12 it comes with should be fine for heavy home use, what type of ram would I use to upgrade it?

Looks like it's proprietary - a 32mb module at Kingston for a Brother HL1450 is $33.00.
