i just finished building my pc, but i'm kind of concerned about my temps. i have about 50°C in bios and about 45°C in Asus probe with my case sides off. my amd 2200 is running at 1.8ghz, so i figured it be lower than this. i was hoping that i would be able to overclock a little, but i dont' think i'll be able to now...

i used arctic silver instead of the thermal pad, too. i don't know what else i can do to help this temp...any suggestions?

Hi macrymble,

What are the system specs?

What heatsink are you using?

How much Arctic Silver did you apply?

Are you certain that the heatsink is installed properly and is sitting flat and level on the CPU die? Recessed part of the heatsink is over the raised portion of the socket. Metal clip contacts heatsink directly over the CPU die.

Arctic Silver takes a few days to "break in" and temps will be a little lower after that.

Check to see that the vcore value is correct, should be 1.65v.

even if it was cool the +2200 cant really overclock that well.

here's what i've got:

thoroughbred 2200+ @ 1.8ghz
liteon cdrw
liteon dvdrom
wd se hdd 80gig /w 8mb cache
asus a7n8x deluxe
2x 256mb crucial ddr2700

i'm using the stock amd heatsink/fan. it was a pretty thin layer over the cpu die...the instructions said to keep it very thin, but i don't think it was too thin.

i'm pretty sure the heatsink is installed properly. i double checked it before i put it on.

the arctic silver website said that the temps would only drop around 3° over a period of 72 hours. can i hope for more?

another probelm is my voltage. my vcore is 1.696, but my 12v is at about 13.

I have an amd athlon 1700+ not overclocked (since i have a damn ecs k7s5a) and I was wondering what voltage my cpu should be at. It is currently running 1.76 v. If this is not correct, how do I change this? Thanks

If it's a Thoroughbred (1.3 micron process), it uses 1.5v.

I suspect you have a Palamino...if so, just leave the vcore alone.

If you want to try and cool your case a little more try rearranging your fans a little. I have the Amd 2500+ with Barton Core and its running at about 40-45 so yours really isnt that hot...I have two fans blowing intake and 1 output so maybe that will help you. Also, if you can, try putting 1 fan in the front of the case on bottom and 1 on top of back. Thats about the best airflow you can get.
