1986 Chevy Van 3.0 wont start...

My dads van like quit on him today or something, he tried to turn the ignition key and nothign happened, then he started messing around with wires underneath the dash and somehow he got it started, now hes home...and he cant turn it off...any of you got any opinions as to why this happned or how to turn it off???

Disconnect the battery.

LoL...tried that...damn thing kept on...we finally figured it out though...turned on all electronic devices, put it in gear and left the battery unplugged and it overwhelmed the alternator. So now it is off...thank god...:D

Now get a qualified automotive electrician to undo the mess! :D

Older GM’s use a sliding bracket to adjust the ign switch; if he was messing around under the dash, make sure the adjusting bolts are tight. I have fixed many of these with a simple adjustment of the ign switch. It’s been a long time so this is from memory; there should be a pin hole to put a piece os wire / paperclip into on the ign switch itself. That puts the switch in the lock position. Put the key in the lock position and tighten the adjustment bolts. Oh yes remove the wire.
