It is looking like if they hand count the 4 Flordia counties that Gore will win Flordia.

Bush needs to call for his own recounts in other states or he will lose.

To challenge the process is a bad stra-teg-ery

Bush tried to claim victory based on two machine counts that are so close as to be statistical toss-ups. When that failed, he implored his opponent to give him the election. Perhaps he is so spoiled by having been given everything all of his life that he was unable to resist making that pathetic plea. All over the USA we settle dead heat elections with a manual recount; too much is at stake to leave it to a machine's margin of error. These machines reject many perfectly fine ballots that wind up with the double-punches and other mistakes and thus never get counted the first time. Is was this type of perfectly fine ballot that the Bush team was recovering when it requested the manual recount in Seminole County.<p>Recount all the close states so as to get it right. It can be done within a week if Bush drops his legal challenges. If Bush asks for a recount in another state, will he want it done by hand or by his "precision machines", as James Baker put it?

Don't forget the absentees - there are still over 2 million not yet counted nationwide.

Let's just kick back and see what happens Friday. Anything between now and then is just posturing - on BOTH sides. They can recount till the cows come home and each recount will be different. This sh1t is getting old. I hope the media is happy with themselves. Barf.

Spin? Bush has a unwinable federal lawsuit to stop the hand counts. Bush is the desperate spin boy. He can take his paper crown off now.

i agree....I made that point last night, when Palm co. voted to do the full hand count. ( fascinating T.V...MSNBC didn't carry it...CNN did)
but the other states STILL don't matter. BUSH would have to run the table on them (N.M,Ia,Wisc,Oregon = 30 electoral) in a recount to win...not likely.

This is quite hard to sort out. Hand count will take longer than the deadline for the votes to count - Tuesday. Gore will need to get an extention otherwise Jeb's election committee will toss out all the Palm Beach votes. That would really make a mess.

I doubt the election committee will toss them out - they are Democrats.

"//// Bob Crawford, who replaced Gov. Jeb Bush as commissioner of Florida's Canvassing Commission, said Saturday that if a county misses the state's deadline for certifying results, the entire county's vote will be thrown out.

"The statute is very clear that if a county's results are not to us by 5 p.m. Tuesday we shall ignore that county's vote, and the counties need to be very aware of that," Crawford told reporters. "Candidates asking for recounts need to be aware of that." /////"

demos have already sent their response electronically, to the federal judge that is hearing the Repubs complaint.
This thing will be ready to rock & roll and be over and done with, in a heartbeat, on Monday.
I will be shocked if it isint thrown out in a NewYork minute.

and the beat goes on....

Agreed the Federal case is dung.

I am still wondering about the needed state case to allow the results of the hand count to be counted. If so Gore may win.

The federal case is a constitutional question. It was filed as an equal protection case. If you can just count some ballots by hand without clear guide lines as to what is a true vote. If so are my rights protected by not having all votes counted by hand that were not counted in all states??

I'm wondering what it is you don't understand?? You can't have one set of rules for 4 counties & let them tell us who wins. When there were over 125 thousand ballots in cook county Ill. alone in the trash not counted.
