mx700 help

I have a logitech mx700 and it works almost without a hitch. The only problem is when playing hitman 2, and sometimes a little on starcraft its movement will be choppy, and it will stall when i try to click, ex. i try to click it doesn't work, i click 5 more tiems they dont work, then when it starts working again it clicks 6 times in a row.
Might this be a problem with the drivers? if so how do i check which drivers i have installed for it?, should i use the drivers on the cd that came with it, or get some online?
If this is a common problem that has not beeen solvde yet is the best solution just to go with a ball mouse for gaming purposes. The battery is not low i make sure to set it on te recharger everynight before i go to sleep, may it be that its getting overcharged?? i dont think it would be a problem, but it does sit on the charger for more time each day than it is in use.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

btw OS is windows xp pro.

edit: what about changing the usb port it is plugged into might that change something?

it also gets choppy when im just messing around in solitaire and internet explorer

i think it might also be the mouse pad im using, right now its either the cover of a yearbook, which often has no distinguishing features in parts, or a piece of 8x11 paper with random letters on it, what is a cheap mouse pad solution for an optical mouse, for some reason mine wont work on my wood desk, it is a reddish wood if that matters.

You are not supposed to use optical mouses on reflective surfaces, and I'm guessing the top of your desk is polished, which is why you cant use it. Make sure the surface you use isn't reflective, and preferably has some type of distinguishable in it. I use mine straight on my synthetic wood desk, but I've heard a small checkerboard type pattern is ideal for optical mice.

I have an mx700 as well, and it occasionally will lag for a bit. I'm pretty sure its just radio interference. Make sure the receiver is as far as possible from things like your monitor that make interference.

And don't worry about overcharging, it will only charge as much as it needs to, then the green light will stop blinking, stay solid for a bit, then go out.

I'm just curious about this mouse, but how does it compare to the MX500 in reaction time? Is the Radio sensor pretty fast with this mouse?

The MX500 is basically the same mouse just wired, hows the performance of the 700 compare with the 500?

Ive got the MX700 and I use it on a polished desk and have had 0 problems with it.

would a lamenated piece of paper be too reflective. The reciever is away from other electronics, but it is on the other side of my computer, or my monitor. Its either one or the other at my current setup could there be interference if teh siganls go right next to another electronic component?
