Weird that i should be asking this but is there a way, without under-clocking my processor, to temporarily slow it down to around 1/2 the speed? The reason i ask is that some of my old programs/games just run too fast at 1.8 GHz, as they were probably designed for around the 500 MHz mark!

Thanks :)

What are your specs?

I'm thinking about AMD CPU's when I say this, but what you may be able to do is either decrease the FSB or change the processor's type. Say you have an Athlon XP 2100+, change it in the BIOS so that the machine thinks its a 1500+, for example.

Thanks for the info :) My processor is an AthlonXP 2200 so that's around 1300mhz more than i really need ;)

i dont really think slowing your procesor down has the effect of slowing games down that much, they are running at maximum potential , im pretty sure they cant just go faster and faster cos its a faster processor

I've heard that some older programs won't run right at high speeds......is this true?

Well, i find most of my old programs work fine except that they work too fast/effeciently as they were designed to just scrape by with the computer resources available at the time.

I've seen programs that have problems like this with fast processors.

This utility works - I've used it.

i knwo with athlon XP CPUs you can downclock them, i dropped my 1.53 ghz to 1.14
