I'm in the research part of building my dream computer. This will be my first time building a computer. I am a part-time videographer, and will be using computer mainly for video and music capturing and editing purposes. What type of motherboard do you think would be more profitable in my search?

What I want my computer to have:
Pent4 processor
2 computer screens
TV monitor
Speed for video and music capturing, editing, and rendoring
Able to handle MIDI
Able to hold 2gigs or more

I know some of this stuff depends on other cards, but the mother board is the most important. So what do you think? If you have any video card and sound card suggestions I am all ears.

For a really stable platform, I'd go with the INTEL D845PEBT2.

If you need 2 gigs or more of ram, the Asus P4G8X is the best choice, it has 4 DIMM slots and will handle 4 gigs of ram if you want to pay the outrageous price for 1 gig modules, they are running $566 EACH now - but 512 meg modules are $72 each, $288 will get you 2 gigs that way.

The Asus P4PE or Intel D845PESVL is a lot cheaper and will perform about as well, but you can only use 2 double sided DIMM modules in them - the Asus has a 3rd slot but you can only use single sided modules in slots 2 and 3. Bottom line - if you want 2 gigs of ram, go with the P4G8X.

Thanks.

Will the Asus p4g8x do all the other things I need also?

ALL the other things you want to do are dependent on other components. The P4G8X has the latest and greatest E7205 chipset from Intel and accepts all Socket 478 Pentium 4 processors, your choice of video and sound cards will be the important factors here.

If you will not be gaming with this computer and will be using it for professional work, the best video card will be a workstation type such as an ATI Fire GL or a Nvidia Quadro - or maybe something from Appian. If you need high end gaming capabilities, a consumer card such as an Nvidia GF4 Ti4xxx or an ATI Radeon 9xxx would be a good compromise, you need to look for a "dual head" model if you want to use 2 monitors. Same principle for a sound card - if it's for pro use only, something from M-Audio or another "professional" card maker would be what you want to look at, if you need gaming and "consumer" sound capabilities, something like a Soundblaster Audigy 2 EX would be appropriate, the external breakout box does have a ton of inputs and outputs to interface with your sound rack and software. The P4G8X Deluxe comes with onboard 6 channel sound, but it's not suitable for professional use.
