Hi everyone
can anyone give me an idea of what is going on. I upgraded my system with KT3 Ultra board from MSI, AMD Athlon XP 2000+ and find that the reported frequency is 1500+. Now I know that the speeds are "less" than as sold but when I set the bus to 133 and ration to x13.5 the system just freezes on the POST. Not explaining this well but it only seems able to run as 1500+ Help

Go into BIOS setup, and set "Failsafe Defaults".
In Power manage, set "IRQ for modem", to N/A.
In Peripherals, disable modem.
In RAM timing, set it to 133/266mhz.
Also in RAM timing, set it to CAS 3.
Restart, and try again.
If it still fails, check the RAM.

XP2000 runs at 1666.66 thus you should be 133 X 12.5, not 13.5

The CPU is multiplier locked, so it won't matter what you set it to in BIOS...unless you have one of the VERY rare ones that's not locked.

AMD doesn't wimp out like intel and lock their chips.... His chip isn't locked. Confused explained it well...

Ok have looked at BIOS. No setting to go to CAS3 only 2.5 Other settings do not clear problem. Ram was purchased specifically described as recommended for this board. When I set the parameters at 133 and multiplier 12.5/13 (it is a combined setting) then either the system locks and I need to clear the CMOS or Windows XP home repeatedly boots Don't know if this makes it any clearer but still can only run with it showing as a 1500+. Think I'll take the fan off again and make sure of the CPU spec.

sleepy: Most AMD chips are in fact multiplier locked from the factory. There are ways to unlock them.
