Please help! Iam building my first system. I'm using a VIA P4PB 400 mobo with a 2.4 Pentium 4. I installed Win98 and am trying to install all the drivers for my peripherals and mobo, but Windows will not fire up (except in Safe mode). I get a Windows protection error while the system is trying to initialize device NDIS, and am told to restart my system. Help?

Thanks, Matt, you are a life - saver. Now I just have to figure out how to get the fix from Microsoft for my OEM version of Windows 98. Thanks a million!!!

Thanks, gentleman, but when I tried to get the patch from Microsoft, they refused to help because I was useing an OEM version of Win98 that came with my Dell (that I am using until I can get my new system up). I went out and bought a new standalone copy of WinXP, and now I am having a battle getting that to work. It gives me a blue death screen with a different error message at different points in the loading process. One time I had it all the way to where it requested my product key, bujt then 3 minutes later, it locked up again. I am ready to bring the whole shebang to a neighborhood computer shop and let them sort it out if they can! Thanks for your time.

Try swapping out the RAM.

Go here (http://www.simmtester.com/page/products/doc/docinfo.asp) and download DocMemory. Test your RAM to see if it's defective.

You might want to go to the Microsoft website and see if the parts you've chosen for your build is compatible with WinXP.
