It really doesn't have anything to do with WinME, it will be done from the BIOS flashing program, so depending upon what MOBO you have, you need to use their program that is for BIOS access. The ones I've used for my ASUS boards allow me to flash up to anew BIOS version as well as back up my current one as a file..

The motherboard manufacturer website says to back up the bios to disc first.

they give instructions on how to do this for win 98 and win xp but not window me

the process isnt the same and i cant figure out how.

I want to upgrade the bios, but I want a copy incase something goes wrong

thx rich

What are they saying to do?? Your right, Winme is a slightly different animal than win9x, cause the pseudo DOS is not there anymore. What about following the same directions as winxp. You may have to do it from a boot floppy. Can you either copy and paste the directions or describe a bit about how they want you to back up the BIOS..

I see what you need now, to create a bootable floppy in Winme go to ControlPanel>AddRemovePrograms, then you'll get a little window with tabs and one of the tabs says startup disk. That is where to go to create a startup disk in WinME...

OK you were faster than me, I had to drag my kids off their PC to make sure that was where it was at!

If I remember correctly though that with that winME boot floppy there was not enough room to also put the flash program and bios files on it, but you can use the boot floppy to boot the PC, and you will get a little menu with that WinME one, just choose minimal boot is fine for what you are doing, then you can remove it and have your BIOS flashing utility on another disk, just put it in at that point and follow the directions to back up and flash your BIOS..

It would have to be in the BIOS to disable that guardian.
