The temp directory is where programs store temporary info. If you ever have a doubt, then you can always copy the stuff to another directory and see if any programs ever say they can't find something.. If they don't, then you're OK. I have to admit, however, that I just dump the temp directory without any precausions..
I saw your other post, and sorry for repeating myself, but if you are cramped for space, have you considered a larger hard drive? (or are you just doing clean up maintenance?)

well, it seems like i'm not putting any new programs on my computer, but i keep losing space. so i'm just trying to figure out how to get it back. but yeah, i'm actually considering a larger hard drive, cuz i'm always a little cramped. i seem to be one of the few people out there with a hard drive under 2 gigs. any suggestions for a new hard drive? i'd be fine with something under 10 gigs. -Reuben

I don't even know if "they" make anything that small anymore.... You can look around at www.newegg.com, or even make a post in our Trading Post Forum, as Wanting To Buy Hard Drive or the like, to see if anyone has one for sale...

You might be limited by your motherboard and it's hard drive controllers as to how big a drive you can add by just plugging it in to the IDE ports on the board. Updating the bios can get some older boards past a few of the size hurdles.
$50 can bring home a 40gb 7200rpm major brand hard drive here in So. Cal. Not sure about up North where the six month sun/shadows dance goes on. If anyone has an inexpensive controller card - you won't have to worry about the motherboard's limits (everything will be taken care of by the add-on card). Some of the Maxtors shipped in "kits" when the UltraDMA 133 drives came out (about a year ago by now?) = they have an IDE controller card right there in the box.
Hard to find smaller drives at prices that make sense. Usually, they are used, possibly unreliable, and noisy. The newer models are truly improved = quieter, faster, and gigantic.

We must have a good "race" going on!! I'm back on 10 - 13 + hours / day..... About this time of day, I'm slurring my words like I've had a few too many cold ones!! (but haven't -- but if I did, I'd at least have a better excuse :D )
