Does DUN have a connection made to the internet, or is there a broadband connection made of some kind?
You should probably check Networks and be sure all of the components are there. Windows 98 is known to drop or corrupt necessary communication components from Networks for no apparent reason.
Also if he has AOL installed and has been using a browser supplied by AOL I have seen weird stuff like that happen.
If it is Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0 you can try to run the IE repair tool and see what happens.
thanks for the reply, hi connection is through dial up , but not AOL,
it was working fine but suddenly stopped, does the IE repair come from the windows disc?

No it does not come from the windows disk per se. It is a built in utility in IE 5.5 and 6.0.
Go to Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and find IE in the list. Click on it to highlite it and click the add/remove button. There will be a check box that you can check to repair the installation. This will repair IE and set everything back to the defaults.
MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE BOX TO REPAIR OR IT WILL REVERT TO THE PREVIOUS VERSION OR COMPLETELY REMOVE IE FROM THE MACHINE.
That would NOT be a good thing.
azscary, thanks for the reply again, I will try it and hopefully that will fix it
