Do I need both the Catalyst driver and the ATI Control Panel? Thanks!

I do believe you can run with just the Catalyst driver, buy you won't have any access to options without the control panel.

Why don't they bundle them together? I downloaded Catalyst 3.2, now I must download the Control Panel in preperation for my new 9700 Pro that arrives today. Thanks for the help!

AW_D,
You may want to do a little more downloading.
Check what version of the Multimedia center comes on your cd.
The current upgrade is also on the website.
I whole- heartedly endorse another Hal suggestion, get the rage3D tweak v3.8, from www.rage3d.com .
You'll find it as a "sticky" in the Tweakers section of the rage3d forum.

Thanks! Does the Rage3D tweak come with provisions for overclocking? Also, what is the 'Multimedia center'?

Yes it does and the overclockers on the forum there have the experience.
ATI cards come with a complete ,suite of VCD, CD, Library, etc.
You may not want to install them ( I seldom use anything other than the DVD player and I'm not sure what Powercolr uses for a DVD player) but if you read the page you'll find such interesting stuff as the latest windows media codecs.
Just the sort of thing you might need.

Not really. It has nothing to do with the GeForceFX; it's just that my Ti 4600 choked on high reolutions, and with any sort of AA enabled, and I wanted to be able to run Splinter Cell at 1600x1200. :D

Just a word of warning ref overclocking the R9700 - make sure the heatsink is in full contact - plus you'll probably want to change the stock fan. Rage3d.com is full of folks who have found out the hard way that the card isnt intended for overclocking (well out of the box anyway).

There's also plenty of posts on how to soft-hack the Cat 3.2 drivers to get the R9800 path - this will enable Trueform 2.1 if you do it correctly. In other words you can enjoy the CAT 3.3s now rather than when they are released.

Know what you mean about Splinter Cell, I run it at 1600x1200 with full AA and its amazing!

I doubt there are many cards around anymore with the oversized shim problems. Even then it would be covered under warranty.

I got the FIC 9700 Pro, which doesn't use the ATI reference cooling solution.
