Hi,

I get this message when I boot up my computer just before my OS (Windows 98SE) starts up:

_
The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\CDROM\OAKCDROM.SYS
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 10

I know I was cleaning up my Program Files folder and I remember deleting that folder (C:\CDROM) I didn't know it might've been of a use.:o

I would like to know is there a way to fix this error without using my boot disks again to recover my files?

Thanks for the help,

That is just to load cdrom drivers for DOS so you could either reload the dos drivers for your cdrom or just go to config.sys and either delete that line or just put a rem in front of line 10 in config.sys..

If you don't use DOS at all, do something even better:

Start. Run. Type msconfig. There disable the autoexec.bat and config.sys files. OK. And restart.

Those files are not needed by Windows.

Well - not exactly - virus scanners use autoexec.bat for the boot time system scan and some programs need to be in the path statement.

I have it all fixed.

Thanks, :)
