Seagate is about to release a 180GB HDD! All I can say is WOW! It is rated at 3.7 dB and only 10.3 watts at "low power idle". And, it has a 5 year warantee and a MTBF of 1,200,000! BUT, the MSRP is $2195!!!!

Don't forget the cost of an Ultra 160 SCSI card for it too!

That's higher than the price of a home built 1.2GHz Athlon System.

Hehe, I'd be happy to scrounge up a couple of hundred to buy a new MB and celeron. $2195 is way out of my league. Seagate also has their new X15 15,000 RPM drive too, 18GB. Dirtcheapdrives has them for $495. Plus the card, of course.

A 1 GB HDD, if it was even available 10 years ago, would have probably cost that much ... if not more. It's amazing that a 15 GB HDD on todays' PC is not considered out of the ordinary anymore.

Personally, (meaning, my opinion) is that 15GB is a hell of a lot of Hard Drive space, and won't be used up for a very, very long time by anyone except a hardcore gammer with lots of titles. Even if you are worried about an operating system taking up the majority of your HD, when that OS does come, it will more than likely have system requirements in the range of a 2.5GHz P4 class CPU, therefore calling for a total system upgrade.

Yeah Dok, I agree. I've got 2 HDD's that total 5GB, and they aren't even half full. No way you could ever need that much room unless you were storing digital movies or something else data intensive.

I can remember saying those same words when I got my first 520 meg hard drive, and my first 20g hd.

I guess it's kinda like Windows with RAM, if you give it more, of course it's gonna use it...

Also think of how many files it would take with it when it dies.
