Splitting is up to you.... my personal pref with my 120Gb are

10Gb for C:\ which has the OS only
20Gb for D:\ which has games
1Gb for E:\ which has data such as documents, spreadsheets, etc
8Gb for F:\ which is for programs only
30Gb for M:\ which is for my MP3's
The remainder I keep blank for use with my All-in-Wonder card's recording features.

FDISK works fine for me ;)

If you're installing win2k or XP, you have the option of partitioning the HDD then. ;)

If you are installing WinXP, just set up the first partition during setup, then use Disk Management after the fact to set up the rest of the drive. Using HAL's example, you would set up a 10gb primary partition during install, then in Disk Management you would allocate the rest of the drive as an extended partition, which can then be broken up into however many logical drives you want. I would also recommend that the first thing you do after install is use Disk Management to set your optical drive letters to what you want - I use R and W on mine (read and write).

I just used WinXP set up to create the partitions and then select which partition to use for the OS.
glc, I've never tried a Disk Management program - or are you talking about the OS's disk management? I'm confused :)

If the drive is already partitioned and formatted, the XP setup may not ask you.
If it's a new, blank drive, the XP will definitely prompt you.

LP: I'm talking about Disk Management within XP. It's in the computer management console.
