Ok bought a 40gb maxtor DM8 HD 3 months ago for my new build, recently windows has been failing on boot because of missing files etc etc and running chkdsk on boot up. I decided to run powermax and it came up with error codes so filled out an RMA code and was sent out a replacement drive.
Sucessufully installed XP first night it ran perfect shut it down perfectly second night (last night) XP wouldnt boot up went into Recover Console to run chkdsk but at 50% it fired out an error message saying unrecoverable error.
I ran powermax again and got the same error codes as the previous drive so I ran a low level format that took a good 2h30mins :mad: installed XP :mad: and it ran perfectly. I shut down my machine and this morning booted up and it started running chkdsk again saying unreadable sector and deleteing areas from the indexes and rebuilding etc etc just as the previous drive did. Is it the drives that are the problem?
