Sorry for repeat on an old problem, but I guess I'm a little slowwwwww
Just for example:
In control-panel when you click a drive.. let's say 'A' with no disk in it you get message " A:\ is not accessible-the Device isnot ready-retry or canel ", but if you put a disk in A drive you go to an open window reading drive A....Now my problem.. in 'D' drive with no cd in drive I get this same mess. as you except , but when I put a cd in it... I still get this message...I'm using a Optirite cd-rw drive (some cheap piece of crap I brought when I put this system together ( Basically a P4 @ 2.0 g running os98se)..using Nero software.. Now before everyone jumps on me about latest drivers and all that stuff , this drive did once work ( It will read programs and music cd's), but I cann;t format a cd-rw disk in it ( INCD, a nero prog.) is running in the background..
All help on this appreciated
:D

Technically, you don't actually format a CD. You just write the data to it in either on session or multiple sessions.
I'm just making sure here: are using using CD-R's or CD-RW's?
As for the message you get, it can be caused by multiple things, the lens could be dirty, lens could have come out of place/misaligned, might be failing on you or the CD itself could be to blame, if your using only 1 cd that is, if you have tried multiple ones its probably the drives fault. When you put a disc in does it sound like its reving up, and then just stop and you get the message? Try getting a lens cleaning kit, they are under 10 dollars at office depot. I hope it helps:)

Force - I think hes talking about this option where you do somewhat format a disc to hold data like a floppy, I did it once, and it told me I could now use this dics like a large floppy. Not 100% sure if thats what hes talking about cause I hvnt used it ina while, but I know I once did it, and I to am using Nero 5.0, so, might be the same thing.

Be that as you think.......format is an option inINCD see below
I'm using cd-rw disc(s) With INCD running on task bar I right click on icon and click on format....Drive spins up and the format begins........With [INCD WIZRD] on desk top showing the progress of the format I wait to almost done as seen on progress bar......Then it stops, disc is ejected and a error on screen says....Error Code [005a-0005-0024-0000] ...Details : Illegal Request error occurred...Reboot your system or drive and try again.....Insert a new disc....I think this std. info from INCD yes..? I'm sure tried the reboot, new disc thing same error occures:D
My version of nero is 3.28.1 and this is starting p......me off:confused:
Does anyone have any good thoughts this drive is only about 2 months old and I'm stuck............
Try upgrading your Nero and InCD to the latest versions. The free "demo" download will upgrade a registered or OEM version.

Thanks glc I just knew you would reply....I'll try just that asap..
One thought on this...Isnot the basic driver for this cd-rw a windows driver ??? The win os I'm currently using is 98se for now and Iwas wondering if itis to old (the win.driver) for this 'newer' cd-rw burner stuff, when back then a cd-rom was the big thing... just a thought, what do you think.......I think the driver file is something like "C:\windows\inf\mscdrom.inf.......
All help is appreciated.........Thank you !:p
Windows drivers have no effect - to Windows, a CD-RW is just another CD drive. Its the burning software that makes it a burner.
Is DMA enabled on the drive?

Thanks glc your help on this appreciated........This am I sent to Nero an e-mail with a error log as an attachment (created in a recent attempted burn) Awaiting there reply.........
I noticed in the error log that Nero thinks my cd-rw is a SCSI type and not IDE..(I'v no SCSI devices) is it my Bios or isit or isit Nero ???? what is thought on this glc.......When I get a reply from Nero I'll post it as possilble help to others.....
:)
Nero thinks all burners are SCSI because of the ASPI layer required to run it. Maybe your ASPI needs to be updated.
