Just installed my LiteOn CDRW and decided to install the included Nero Ahead software and I had a couple of questions about the software installation.

Is it absolutely necessary that Nero (or burning software in general) install itself to OS partition C:?

If not I have some serious gripes about its installation options or more accurately, its lack thereof. :mad:

Also I can't find an uninstall option among the program menu icons for Nero, nor among the files it installed. Is there an option that I might be overlooking, or will it be necessary to remove it through Add Remove Programs?

If the answer to my first question is yes, then there are some other items on the CD that I have questions about.

Nero Media Player
InCD/Packet Writing
Easy Writer Ready

Are any of those necessary and/or useful?

Appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Cirerrek

I do believe Nero has to be installed on the OS partition and to remove it go to the Add/Remove applet in Control Panel.

You don't have to have the rest of the software installed if your running XP just use the built in software to use CDRWs. I do use InCD for CDRW's, but as I said you can use the built in software in XP.

Hi Cirerrek,

You Can put Nero (or Roxio, for that matter) anywhere you want. Mine, on this setup, are installed on my 'E' drive.

I've never used the Media Player or Easy Writer Ready....

Don't use InCD as I have Roxio installed

Well, two conflicting reports, one says has to be on C:, the other says anywhere. Anyone for a third answer?

Got to love all the different hardware, firmware, software versions, software installers out there. It certainly keeps things interesting :p

I just wish the installer had said Nero Ahead will be placed on your OS: partition because...or asked me where I wanted installed if it doesn't have to be there.

Thanks for the advice on the additional software on the CD. Since XP already does most/all of what the extra stuff offers, then I'll skip it.

Thanks for the help! Man, these forums ROCK! :cool:

Cheers,
Cirerrek

Cirerrek, I have installed quite a few installations of Nero, not only in my own machines, but builds for others. You Can install it on any drive in your system.

Understood. Thanks TwoRails.

I just wanted to see if anyone else knew a reason why it should be there as opposed in another location.

Anyway, the installer doesn't give me that option, so I guess, I'll just live with it where it is.

Appreciate the follow up.

Thanks,

I've never seen Nero not give an option on an install. Normally the Nero that ships with burners is a Full verion, but locked to work only with the burner you bought.

If you did not have an option to install on a different drive, the only thing I can think of off hand is:

1) that purhaps LiteOn is using a different OEM version than everybody else, which I highly doubt...

2) or that there was a prior install that Nero saw, so it installed on top of the old install,

2a) a prior install was not un-installed properly or had problems during un-install that's not visable to the user but still directs Nero to install at the old location,

3) (speaking in general: ) the computer doesn't have more than one drive (yours does, yes?)

4) (I'm being nice here: ) the installer was distracted and blew past the option screen to put it somewhere else (that's happened to me a few times :( )

~~~~~~~~
I did an install of version 5.5.10.15 this very last weekend, and it offered, and I choose a different drive than 'C'.
That's all I can think of at the moment, Cirerrek...
