Why has the media made such a huge issue out of the 2 female POW's? It's almost like they don't care about the others.........if this isn't a ratings grab I don't know what is.

I suppose you are right glc, they did seem to go on a feeding frenzy once it was known. I guess they are also making a big thing about the ladies because most of us are not used to the idea of women POW's. What I watched on CNN though seemed to mainly consentrate on WO Young's family. A member of Pte Johnstons family just read a very short, terse statement, nothing more.

It is great to have the POW's back and I know they have probably gone through hell. I wouldn't want to take anything away from them.

But what about those that died?

What about the injured?

What about those that have lost an arm, a leg or is so full of shrapnel it will take years to remove it all. My own father went through the hell of shrapnel removal. 20 years after the war they were still removing it from his shattered body.

Don't any of these folks deserve a mention?

What about those that have received the purple heart for bravery in the face of the enemy? While I saw a quick battlefield cerimony to give out a couple of Purple Hearts, the soldiers names were not mentioned nor were they interviewed afterwards.

President Bush visited some of the wounded the other day, including Pte Lynch and bestowed Purple Heats on some of them. Again not a word about the bravery of these wonderful young people. Could that not have been televised, or at the very least their names mentioned with a short blurp about their bravery? What's the big secret?

Don't these Brave Young American's deserve wide spread recognition for their deeds? Particularly when the cameras are right there.

Sure some of this may come out after the war is well over and gone, but I sure think it would have been good for American moral, not only amongst the ranks in the active theatre, but also amongst everyone on home soil to see a few of these guys and gals get the recognition they deserve.

I suppose this one is getting close to meddling in US affairs and I appologize, but it seemed to me the question needed to be asked.

This may be a cynical view, but I have never thought of the military to hold to close to heart what the media did, or what the president said, or how the general public acts, or their mood...I have always thought that there was a great respect, and just common sense of honor in the military, you dont have to tell a soldier he is brave, he knows he is, he knows he, and the many before him have paved the way for this country, and he and many like him have died to do so, Im not even in yet, and I already have that general feel...when I talk to my recruiter, when I talk to the vets, when I talk to some of the cool guys who just hang at the recruitment office...Its just there...I cant wait to earn it for myself:D

Yesterday, or the day before, FoxNews did a wonderful, 10 or 15 minute article on 3 wounded soldiers and a marine. It was full of great interviewing and the showing of these brave young men's hearts and stories of their combat experiences. One soldier (he was in Pvt Lynch's convoy) who knew he was shot in his shoulder and hand walked a mile to safety before he realized he was shot in the hip.
Wish you would have seen it, Eagle, it was everything you hoped for....

avx you are 100% correct. Just the same, when you attend your first Honours Parade, or even receive an honour yourself, you will be engulfed with a deep feeling of satisfaction and pride. To work with, and be a part of, a service with men and women that accomplish extraordinary deeds in the face of extreme adversity does something to you that you could never feel sitting on the sidelines.

When the President of your country, the representative of all of the people, bestows upon you an honour how could you or your fellow service members not feel pride? A Military man/woman must feel pride in his/her service, pride and respect for those he/she works with, it essential to good moral.

Hi Tim, yes I am very sorry I can not get the Fox Network. I am happy to hear that at least one media source is giving these fine young men and women the recognition they truly deserve. Thank you for sharing this news.
