i heard about a program called divx. it compresses dvd to mpeg-4 so it will fit on a vcd... i have another program that is supposed to do the samething but clames to compress to mpeg-2. i thought mpeg-2 was dvd size. oh yea and where can i get vcd's??? i cant find them anywhere! how much do they hold? is there a free program that can compress dvd to cd or vcd or svcd?

VCD is a format, not a type of disk. You can burn a VCD to a normal CDR.

That is a lot of questions and I have the feeling that the answers at this time would not make much sense.
I would suggest reading some how-tos and articles.
If you need a place to start, this was the first place I found: www.dvdrhelp.com
This might not be the answer you wanted, but if you read as much as you can, things will make sense.

thanx guys. i was thinking thats what it was but i wasnt sure. so i guess im stupid for thinking they were cd's... is there a program that converts the format to vcd? or from what i ready it would be better to convert to divx as its smaller. i have one called TMPGEnc but it only fits roughly an hour on a normal cd-r in vcd format. the divx sounds pretty good when most movies are about 2 hours.

SVCD (Mpeg-2) is by far a better format than Divx. Better quality.
